The Creation of YMagazine

This past July I have set up a garden indoors entitled by “Spring In The Summertime“which showcased my first published magazine. This overall result took me about two years to plan and execute.

Being one of the most important days of my life with dealing and expanding my brand, but more importantly my event was the beginning of a very busy and filled weekend for the city of Chicago. I was happy to be apart of a very monumental weekend now to work on the second volume which will release sometime late next year. Over a decade providing a space for people of the community to gather in safe heaven. Working with the owner he allowed me to fully have control over what message and what my delivery for the event would be.

Two years ago I finally decided it was time to display my brand in a way that would be not only gather different crowds of people but help show a multidimensional brand. I thought of Y Magazine from the thought that my blog wasn't reaching people the way I wanted and expected.

This space I picked the building has been around for over a decade which I find to be important and which is why I decided to pick this space as my first event space. I never knew finding the perfect venue would take a long process. This venue has been around West Garfield for over a decade providing a space for people of the community to gather in safe heaven rather it was a church, a shelter or rehabilitation center. It was the main reason, then the owner who believes in vision and progression. Working with the owner he allowed me to fully have control over what message and what my delivery for the event would be.

During this journey of transformation, I learned a lot about myself when involving set direction and more importantly I've learned my routine when setting up for my events.

Y Magazine was formed to showcase different individuals who are talented and passion for their brand and themselves. Traditional style of press aren’t as normalized anymore. They are more for show than communication anymore, I want to use them to communicate, gathering an audience, and give those who are outshined by popular demand over true passion.

I created a two cover edition for my first release which showed my growth when producing this final version. A total of 40 pages each featuring a few local creatives within the art field that I felt should be shown off. In this city I have seen many young individuals who should be recognized but our city can be a place of cold shoulders. Having a name is more important than the background and knowledge you may bring.

This edition is mainly women who I am happy to have worked with for my first project. I'm truly excited to drop the digital version of the magazines soon.
